Call for Award Nominations
Nominations must be received via email or postmarked by, June 1, 2009

Recipients must be nominated by a fellow occupational therapy practitioner.

Submit nominations to MAOT's Administrative Assistant, with a completed nomination form describing the candidate's credentials and reasons for nomination. Nominations will be returned to you if they do not include the required information. There is no limit to the number of nominations you may submit.

The MAOT executive board will review all nominations and the recipient will be notified prior to the Annual MAOT conference.

Note: All award recipients will receive his or her award during the MAOT Annual Conference

The awards are:

  • Catherine Trombly Award -
    This award was first established in 1999 to honor Catherine Anne Trombly, Sc.D., OTR, F.A.O.T.A., Retired Professor, Boston University. Professor Trombly is the author and editor of Occupational Therapy for Physical Dysfunction, a textbook that is "the Bible of the OT Profession". This award is to honor Professor Trombly's dedication and commitment to the occupational therapy profession. This year will be the start of expanding this award to honor an occupational therapist from Massachusetts who has contributed significantly to the profession and is an example for all of us to aspire to within our profession..

  • Herbert Hall Award -
    This award is designed to recognize an individual or group who has demonstrated outstanding service to the profession of occupational therapy.

  • MAOT Clinical Excellence Award (new)
    This is an award that will be presented annually at the MAOT Conference to recognize a practitioner who demonstrates superior knowledge and skills in a specialized area of clinical practice.

  • The Linda Savino Award -
    This award is designed to recognize an occupational therapy practitioner, or other individual or group, who has demonstrated outstanding service to the profession of occupational therapy in the area of political activism

  • The Outstanding OTA of the Year -
    This award is designed to recognize an occupational therapy assistant who has demonstrated outstanding proficiency or service to the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy (MAOT). The award is not for years of service, but for quality, proficiency and contributions. This award may be granted to the same individual more than once.

Nominations/Award Review Procedure

1. All nominations must meet the following criteria for review by the Nominations Committee.
  • All nominations must be received no later than June 1 of the year the award is to be given.
  • All nominations must be made by MAOT members in good standing.
  • All nominations must include contact information (name, address, phone number, fax, e-mail) for both the nominator and nominee.
  • All nominations must include a narrative of no fewer than fifty words explaining why the candidate for nomination qualifies for this award.
  • All nominations must meet specific criteria of the award.


2. Once a nomination has been deemed eligible by the nominations committee to meet all the above criteria, and the award specific criteria, the committee will review the candidates for each award and when appropriate, put forth a slate of candidates to the executive board.

3. The nomination papers for the recommended candidates will be provided by the nominations committee for executive board members review at least one week prior to voting.

4. Upon selection of recipient the executive manager will generate a letter of congratulations and invite the recipient to attend conference to receive their award.

5. Award recipients can invite a guest for the award ceremony and the recipient may attend conference at MAOT's expense.

MAOT Conference Committee 2009 is accepting papers for Presentations and Posters to the annual conference on October 2, 2009 at the Westford Regency Inn and Conference Center.
