The Shriver Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center is pleased to announce a new, interactive web site at www.ddleadership.org/aspergers.
This interactive web site is intended to facilitate discussion among consumers, family members, professionals and legislators/policy makers interested in and concerned with issues that individuals with Asperger's Syndrome and High Functioning Autism face on a day to day basis.
In addition to the discussion pages, the site provides an opportunity to ask questions of various experts regarding a number of topics including education, vocational issues, diagnosis, treatment interventions, sensory integration, social issues and others. Available now on the web site are questions and responses by this month's expert, an educational consultant. Experts who will be available over the next few months to answer questions include a clinical social worker, parent and occupational therapist.
Also provided on this web site is the opportunity to participate in short, on-line courses. Courses currently available are a course on A Life Apart: Parent Perspective on Living with A Child with AspergerÕs and a course on AspergerÕs Syndrome: Emotional and Social Implications.

The Barrett Family Wellness Center is a fun facility. One that was founded on the basis of providing services that enrich peoples' lives. This is accomplished through a variety of programs ranging from Occupational Therapy services for children to wellness programs aimed at bettering the health of adults. Allied health professionals are occupational therapists and assistants, athletic trainers, and physical therapists and assistants.
Occupational therapists are health professionals who use occupational activities with specific goals in helping people of all ages to prevent, lessen or overcome physical, psychological or developmental disabilities. Athletic trainers work with clients in preparation for, or participation in, sports activities. They work to treat, rehabilitate and prevent athletic injuries. Physical therapists provide rehabilitative care for patients with physical disabilities or dysfunctions.
The Board of Registration in Allied Health evaluates the qualifications of applicants for licensure and grants licenses to those who qualify. It establishes rules and regulations to ensure the integrity and competence of licensees. The Board is the link between the consumer and the allied health professional and, as such, promotes the public health, welfare and safety.
