Our adult mental health focused programSensory-Enhanced Yoga® for Self-Regulation & Trauma Healing, evolved from the treatment protocol used in the highly successful and only US yoga study conducted in an active combat zone during Operation Iraqi Freedom (Stoller et al, Jan/Feb 2012 American Journal of Occupational Therapy). In this randomized/ controlled study of 70 US military personnel, the treatment group showed a significant reduction in anxiety and significant improvement in 16 out of 18 mental health and quality of life factors as compared to the control group.  The Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® program has been shaped by thorough research, detailed in the book, Sensory-Enhanced Yoga for Self-Regulation and Trauma Healing, by Lynn Stoller and a team of expert contributors.  It also draws on Lynn’s extensive experience working closely with individuals dealing with post-traumatic stress and high anxiety, both one-on-one and in group settings, along with the deep expertise of the faculty. The program is being successfully implemented in several countries around the world, including with traumatized soldiers, veterans, and civilians in Ukraine.

Teachers, OTs, and other school-based professionals learn how to effectively help students manage symptoms of trauma, toxic stress, anxiety, ADHD, and similar conditions so they can maintain a calm and focused state of alertness conducive to learning.

This 25-hour webinar series is the child and adolescent-focused version of our flagship program, Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® for Self-Regulation & Trauma Healing (see below), which evolved from the highly successful Iraq Yoga Study (Stoller, et al., 2012, AJOT). The treatment protocol for the Iraq Yoga study was inspired by a successful yoga class for combat veterans and student yoga programs taught by OTs and PTs at the Cotting School, a school for physically and/or learning challenged students located in Lexington, MA. SEYI has now come “full circle” to offer a program specifically designed for school settings so children can benefit across the state (and beyond)!

Parts 1 & 2- The Science & Theory

5 Pre-Recorded Sessions

& 2 Optional Live Q & A’s (Sun Oct 5 & Sat Oct 25, 10 am-12 noon EST)

Parts 1 & 2-  SMYLE will present the science/evidence base, theoretical model, and guidelines for practice through a child-focused lens. Theoretical concepts and research findings from the fields of occupational therapy, trauma psychology, developmental psychology, neuroscience, and traditional yogic philosophy are skillfully synthesized into the Transdisciplinary Model for Post-Traumatic Growth in Children. Though mostly lecture, a small sampling of yoga, breathing, and meditation techniques will be taught.  Sessions are pre-recorded to allow viewing at your convenience.

Part 3- The Practice

Weekend of November 1 & 2, PLUS Saturday November 8, 2025, @ 9:30-3:00 EST

Part 3 will present evidence-based, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate practices that can be incorporated into particular activities and time points during the school day. Both mat and chair versions of the yoga forms and movements will be taught, along with child-friendly breathing and meditation practices. Participants will have opportunities to practice the techniques in pairs and small groups and will also participate in a larger group final lab which includes planning and presenting practices for one school day for their assigned case study student. Attendance (via Zoom) is mandatory at all live sessions of Part 3 to receive a certificate of completion, due to the experiential nature of the course.

The book, Sensory-Enhanced Yoga for Children and Adolescents:  Healing Trauma, Anxiety, and Stress through the Koshas, by Lynn Stoller and Meg Hennessey Schofield, is required for the course (available through Amazon).
